Just a quick little story. My kids know that they are not to use the word stupid but they do anyway sometimes. So last night when we are trying to go to bed my kids are all trying to talk to me. Dougan wanted to know again how old he would be on his birthday. I say four. Then Eades says, "Like me?" I say, "No, Eades, you're five." Then Koen chimes in, "See Eades you are stupid." I say, "Koen, you aren't supposed to use that word." He says, "I mean stupid in the way that you don't know anything." I'm thinking isn't that the only way stupid is? Besides does that mean it's okay to say it? So I give him a frown and tell him to say sorry, but on the inside I am totally cracking up. When they couldn't see my face I was finally able to smile and laugh a little.

SO what he was saying is that Eades was stupid as in ignorant, not stupid as in dumbass.
Right, but we don't use that word either.
I know.... why does she use those words? The nerve. I use words like idiot. or in your case Idgit.
Actually, I did not think you were an idiot I just thought it sounded nice and you were so open and simple minded,(meaning trusting)
You probably won't be able to stop them from name-calling but keep trying. We are not commanded to have perfect children, we are just commanded to train a child in the way he should go. So hang in there
it gets harder too, especially as they get older. I don't like my kids using the word "Retard" or "Retarded" in place of "stupid" because it's not the correct way to use it. Plus, it puts down people who actullay are mentally retarded. So - sometimes, when watching a movie or tv show when something is just really stupid-humor, i'll say "stupid" as I am laughing. when the kids were little they would say, "ummm. you said a bad word." so - i guess you just never win. but i like how Koen tried to back-peddle and explain his reasoning behind it.
i don't mind if the kids say stupid as long as they don't say it about someone. they say that anything but a person is stupid as much as they want. also, i like how mom says you are simple minded.
I mean simple like uncomplicated, not a dullard.
Simple as in up front and not coniving.
Don't put meaning where there is none.
So there!
oh i completely believe you, nursemom. yeah, i totally get that's how you meant it. i'm sure you would never mean it in that other way. that doesn't seem like something you would ever do.
